چکیده

Healthy, nonobese, young rats developed hypertriglyceridemia (mean triglyceride levels of 250 mg/dl) following consumption of a sucrose-lard diet. The hypertriglyceridemia was apparent three days after start of the diet and persisted throughout the 4-week experimental period. Body weight, liver weight, and serum glucose levels were similar in animals eating either the sucrose-lard diet or standard rat chow. On the other hand, serum free fatty acid levels were slightly increased and serum insulin levels were substantially increased in animals eating the sucrose-lard diet. Determination of very low density lipoprotein turnover revealed that total triglyceride secretion in rats eating the sucrose-lard diet was significantly (P < 0.01) increased over that of rats eating standard chow. Direct measurement of hepatic and intestinal very low density lipoprotein secretion indicated that the observed rise in total triglyceride secretion was secondary to increased secretion of very low density lipoproteins by the liver. Finally, lipoprotein lipase activity of adipose tissue from rats eating the sucrose-lard diet was equal to, or greater than (depending upon sampling time), the activity of the enzyme from adipose tissue of rats eating the control diet. These data indicate that young, nonobese, rats develop hypertriglyceridemia when they ingest a sucrose-lard diet, and that the rise in plasma triglyceride levels results from an increase in hepatic very low density lipoprotein secretion. The dietary-induced hypertriglyceridemia is associated with elevated serum insulin levels, and, as such, may provide a useful animal model to use in studies aimed at defining the pathogenesis of endogenous hypertriglyceridemia in man.-Reaven, G. Improvement of Liver Cell Therapy in Rats by Dietary Stearic Acid

Background: Stearic acid is known as a potent anti-inflammatory lipid. This fatty acid has profound and diverse effects on liver metabolism. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of stearic acid on markers of hepatocyte transplantation in rats with acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver damage. Methods: Wistar rats were randomly assigned to 10-day treatment. Stearic acid was administe...

The Effect of Aqueous Extract of Inocutis levis on Liver Histopathology and Hypertriglyceridemia in High Sucrose-fed Wistar Rats

Background: Diets rich in simple carbohydrates can induce obesity and metabolic syndrome. Objectives: In this study we investigated the effect of aqueous extract of Inocutis levis on the levels of serum lipids and liver tissue in high sucrose fed (HSF) rats. Methods: Thirty two male wistar rats were divided into 4 groups: 1- control, 2- a group that were fed with high sucrose solution for 12...

Beneficial Effects of a Protein Rich Diet on Coping Neurotransmitter Levels During Ampicillin-Induced Neurotoxicity Compared to Propionic-Acid Induced Autistic Biochemical Features

This study examined the effects of a protein rich diet on coping neurotransmitter levels in orally administered ampicillin–induced neurotoxic rats compared with propionic acid (PA) models of autism. 40 young male western albino rats were divided into four groups. The first group served as control and received phosphate buffered saline orally; the second group serving as autistic model was...

The effect of dietary bovine colostrum supplementation on serum malondialdehyde levels and antioxidant activity in alloxan-induced diabetic rats

Due to the range of its constituents, colostrum has been considered as a supplement for various diverse purposes. This study was conducted to examine the effect of supplementary bovine colostrum on serum malondialdehyde (MDA), antioxidant activity (AOA) and glucose in a diabetic rodent model. Sixty male Wistar rats were divided into 10 groups of six rats each for 40 days as follows: non-diabeti...

Hormone-Induced Variation of Phosphatidate Phosphohydrolase Activity in Various Tissues of Pregnant Rats

Variations in phosphatidate phosphohydrolase (PAP) activity and triacylglycerol concentration were measured in pregnant and hormone-treated non-pregnant female rats. PAP activity in adipose tissue was elevated by 61% during pregnancy. The increase in the enzyme activity was paralleled with a rise in serum triacylglycerol concentration (44%). Estradiol injecting into non-pregnant rats increased ...
